Best Commercial Printer - Colorfx and Rock Communications Ltd.
Posted on Sep 17, 2010
Many printing and publishing companies have been threatened in the last few years by the rise of digital communications, but Colorfx & Rock Communications Ltd. has survived by offering more than just printing services.
Colorfx, Iowa's largest privately owned printer with two facilities and about 400 employees, combines printing communications and information technology services into one package for its clients.
Nathan Kring, executive vice president of Colorfx, said the company is "well suited" for projects that encompass several areas of its business and is able to keep customers by offering services like printing, binding and mailing all under one roof.
"We've been fairly aggresssive as early adopters; there's not a lot of companies in Iowa that combine all those types of capabilities," he said.
Colorfx also offers environmentally friendly printing, using soy-based inks, and can create carbon-neutral products by using responsible paper, recycling and buying carbon offsets.
So far, Kring said the company hasn't seen a huge return on investment by offering carbon-neutral printing, but said that in the long run it will be a good investment as more businesses go green.
"We see it as an important thing. We think that being environmentally friendly is just the right thing to do," he said. "But also, more and more of our customers are demanding that we do whatever we can to be responsible partners with the environment."
